The legend of Guilin rice noodles have been talked about for many years. No one is clear about it and no one has done textual research about it.

Legend has it that Emperor Qin Shihuang sent Shi Lu to lead the farmers to dig the Ling Canal.,

After the Ling Canal had been completed, Emperor Qin Shihuang toured Guilin landscape in incognito, accompanied by the Prime Minister Li Si. Emperor Qin Shihuang had a propensity. He liked to have carp feelers and fish tripe which is very crisp to go with wine.

When he came to the Li River, the river was teemed with carps which could be caught by hands. He was so happy that he asked the fishers to catch as much as possible for him and he would give more money. He used many carps to make just one meal. And he had toured the Li River for more than half a month and killed thousands upon thousands of carps. The Carp King in the Li River was so annoyed that it swore to upturn Emperor Qin Shihuang¡¯s boat on the river and prey him for meal. When the River God knew it, he admonished the Carp King not to act foolishly and recklessly and try and find some other ways, as it was the emperor.

The Carp King hit upon a plan in desperation. It ground rice into paste to make the fish feeler (round noodles )and fish tripe (flat noodles ). After Emperor Qin Shihuang ate them, he thumped the table and shout"Bravo!". Since, Guilin rice noodles were given the birth.
